[01.09] Fleas and louses
at Cetate Deva Gym School
ProTv and Antena1 Romanian TV stations have both aired this
evening in their prime-time news bulletin, shock reports about
bad sanitary conditions at Deva Gymnastics boarding School.
Only after the local press have published reports about the
situation, the local inspectors from Health department have
inspected today the school premises. After a close inspection,
found that, out of 100 little girls from gymnastic school,
four were found with (two months old) dead, louse eggs, in
their hair.
Past few weeks, some gym coaches have choused to run their
training programs in the city parks, to avoid louse contamination
of little girls.
Some of the coaches and girls have confirmed the situation
in front of TV cameras, with their identity covered (showing
only their back to cameras or blurred images). Chief Inspector
Stefan Repede from Deva Health Inspection, being angry about
the press reports which have forced them to go there, said
to TV reporters that the sanitary conditions at Deva camp
are very bad and the place is too crowded with girls (100
girls in the boarding school).
Deva Gym School Marinica Pavanica said that there are no any
more sanitary problems at school, but today inspection and
girls statements have revealed contrary. The county Governor
said if the inspection would prove the facts reported by local
press are true, he will discharge some persons.
Medical nurse Giulianca Blaga of Deva school said only one
girl was rejected at today inspection to enter the board school
(being infected with louses eggs), that the situation is "
normal when the girls return from home for school, in September,
to have such cases" .
Local press and the TV reports said, by contrary, that the
little girls does not receive proper sanitary advices and
supervision when they are in the board house at Deva.
Some of the girls told in front of TV cameras they choused
some old, tradition prevention methods like washing their
hair with kerosene ( a very dangerous method used in old times
in Romanian countryside), because they were scared at the
thought their room mates can infect them, too. ..
At only 50 meters distance, the special board house for the
Romanian Olympic Team is situated. In 10 days, the team is
expect to return at Deva. Their training hall is the same
with the one used by little girls.
"There are no any more louses, but the hall may still have
a lot of fleas, inside those many mattresses", said Chief
Health Inspector Stefan Repede in front of TV cameras this
evening.
