Deva gym hall to be repaired
(Only) after the lice story have been published by the Romanian
press, the Municipality of Deva have found the resources (1.5
billions lei) to make the much needed reconditioning of the
gym hall and board school used by the Cetate Deva Club.The
Mayor of Deva city will meet the President of Sport Commision
next Tuesday to fix details, Romanian TVR1 said.
The local sport committee have applied for funds since ages,
but due to local elections held in June and the lack of interest
from previous municipal council, the funds were not available
sooner.
The construction company have promised that after they start
the project, they will do their best to end it in two months.
It was better to have it done during summer, during the children
holiday.
This could happen only if the director of the Cetate Deva
Club could convince earlier the municipality to provide the
funds. He was too busy this spring, threatening Oana Petrovschi
with the expelling from the boarding school, after she have
started talking about poor medical care she get at the Olympic
Team.
It seems that (only after) the press exposure of the case,
like in many other situation, have helped (or better say,
forced) the local authorities to do what they have had to
do, at least.
In Romania, all the important sport newspapers (Gazeta Sporturilor,
Prosport and also the most important independent newspaper,
"Evenimentul Zilei" have had large stories on the subject,
the last one having a half first page photo and large story
in the third page).The most important Tv stations like ProTv
and Antena 1 have had live reports in prime-time.The state
television TVR1 have aired only the report about the gym hall
and board house to enter into special reconditioning program.
Many parents which have had their children in Cetate Deva
boarding school have told to some Romanian newspapers or to
us about their children past bad experiences, confirming that
this week reports were not only true, but far from the full
picture, which is even worst (the situation being hidden for
years).
Ms. Emilia, now a U.S. resident about her own experience at
Deva:" I'm sure the reports from Deva are true, I was there
myself for half a year and I left the school board after taking
scab. I went back home with a lot of pustules on the head
and on my body."
Ioan Pop: " Few years ago I have had my little girl at Deva
board house. each time I visited her, she was sick. In her
first holyday, she came home with scab.I made a call to their
medical nurse but they didn't admit having any problems. There
were many other bad things at the boarding school: girls slept
two in a little bed, some girls steal from others, the little
ones can not wash themselves because the basins were too high,
like for adults. When girls were at canteen, they could saw
the Olympic Team eating in the same area, but receiving a
better food and fruits. A six year old children can not understand
the difference among them.As parent, we have had to leave
some cash to teachers, to give from time to time to our children
for buying food for themselves.I think the only children who
stay there are those with really bad, very bad conditions
back home."
Mrs. P (now a French resident): "The lice story is true and
started years back. As a student, I was in Deva for training
and we slept inside board house . I went back home with a
lot of lice.I worked two weeks back home to remove them, using
9 kilos of chemicals and... a lot of kerosene".
